Rosa Parks was born February 4, 1913 in Tuskgee, Alabama. She lived on a farm with her grandparents, parents, and brother. Her father left the farm to go find work when she was two years old. All of Rosa's family members had to work together on the farm. Rosa went to an all black school for five months out of the year. She was not allowed to go to the white school, that was in session nine months a year.
Rosa Parks is famous for not giving her seat up on a bus. She was one of the first black people that stood up to a white person. She stood up for what was right. She got people to stop riding the buses in Montgomery until black and white people were treated the same. The bus strike lasted for about one year.
Rosa Parks died on October 24, 2005. She will always be remembered for inspiring other people to stand up for what is right.
