Martin Luther King, Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived with his mother, his father, his older sister, and his younger brother. As a child, he liked to play football and basketball. One day he was playing outside with his white friend. The friend's mother said her white son could not play with a black boy. This made Martin sad.
Martin Luther King, Jr. went to Morehouse College in Atlanta at the age of fifteen. He decided to become a minister. He wanted to help people get along. He taught people to use words instead of weapons. He fought for black and white people to be treated equal.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot on April 4, 1968 and he died. He was 39 years old. He will always be remembered for teaching people to use their words.
