George Washington Carver
by Harmony

George Washington Carver was born in 1864 or early 1865 as a slave. He was born on a farm in Missouri. When he was a baby, his mother and him were kidnapped and taken to Arkansas. George never saw his mother again. George went back to the farm in Missouri. Moses and Susan Carver raised him. They were white people. He was not a strong little boy, he was weak. He did not have to do much work on the farm. He liked swimming and exploring in the woods.

George Washington Carver went to Simpson College. He was the school's first African-American student. He studied art there, but he decided he wanted to study plants instead. He went to Iowa State College next. He is famous for finding 300 hundred ways to use peanuts. He studied peanuts while he was a teacher at Tuskegee Institute.

George Washington Carver died on January 5, 1943. He was 78 years old. People will always remember him for helping others and discovering new things.
