by Chloe

Betsy Ross was born on January 1, 1752 in Pennsylvania. She loved to sew as a child. She went to school and learned how to read and write. Not all kids got to go to school in 1752.

Betsy Ross made our first American flag. She worked with George Washington to create the design for the American flag. He wanted the flag to be a square, but Betsy Ross wanted it to be a rectangle. She said it would fly better as a rectangle.

Betsy Ross died in 1836. She was 84 years old. She will always be remembered for making our first flag.
